Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide essential public safety services that our community can trust, rely on and be proud of.

Department Staffing

We are a combination fire department and ambulance service meaning that we have a Career and Paid on Call staffing model. Our career staff operate as both paramedics and firefighters, whereas our Paid on Call staff operate as strictly firefighters, responding to fire incidents only.

2022 Call Volume

  • We responded to nearly 3,700 total incidents in 2022
  • 3,200 calls are EMS/Ambulance response
  • 480 of those calls were fire response

For more detailed information on responses see our Annual Report.

As a Regional Hub for the largest city in Minnesota (by area), the Hibbing Fire Department provides both fire response and advanced life support services to our local residents and mutual aid. We also provide advanced life support for 10 neighboring communities and townships.

Located 75 miles from the Canadian border our department is responsible for covering a total of approximately 200 square miles.
