Carey Lake Park

Established in the mid-1960s, Carey Lake Recreation Area is Hibbing's largest park at 1,139 acres. The park is mostly pristine, undeveloped forested and wetland areas, including a 139-acre lake. Carey Lake, also known as DuPont Lake, is located about five miles east of Hibbing and within the St. Louis River Watershed. The small lake has a maximum depth of 13.5 feet and 2 miles of shoreline. There is a small boat access on the east side with limited parking availability.

A 4.25 mile asphalt trail runs from Minnesota North College into Carey Lake Park. The bikeway parallels Dupont Road (25th St.) for 3 1/2 miles.

Amenities of the park include trails for biking, hiking, cross country skiing, a swimming beach, boat access, a fishing pier, bird watching area, picnic areas and a pavilion (which can be rented). Some work has been completed to develop a campground on the property.
