Established in the mid 1960’s and at 1139 acres, is Hibbing’s largest park. The park is mostly pristine and undeveloped and contains forested and wetland areas including 139-acre Carey Lake. Carey Lake, also known as DuPont Lake, is located about five miles east of Hibbing, MN and within the St. Louis River Watershed. The small lake is 139 acres with a maximum depth of 13.5 feet and 2 miles of shoreline. There is a small boat access on the east side with limited parking availability. There is a <10 hp outboard restriction on the lake and seaplane base on the southwest side. There is one seasonal outlet (Carey Creek) to Dempsey creek.
A 4.25 mile asphalt bike trial runs from Hibbing Community College into Carey Lake Park. The bikeway parallels Dupont Road (25th St.) for 3 1/2 miles.
Some amenities of the park include trails for biking, hiking, cross country skiing, swimming beach, boat access, and a fishing pier. Pre-engineering work has been completed to develop a campground on the property set to go into place in 2024.
